The Toronto Blue Jays have had an underwhelming offseason thus far compared to other American League East teams like the Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees.
While the Blue Jays have reportedly been in the mix for big-name players such as Juan Soto and Corbin Burnes, they have been unable to land a star player thus far.
The Blue Jays acquisitions this offseason include pitcher Jeff Hoffman, pitcher Yimi Garcia, pitcher Nick Sandlin, pitcher Josh Walker, and second baseman Andres Gimenez.
Even though the Blue Jays missed out on a couple of star players, there is still one other star player who remains available on the free-agent market.
According to MLB Insider Buster Olney via B/R Walk-Off on ‘X,’ an MLB executive believes the Blue Jays can offer free agent Alex Bregman the most money due to their level of desperation.

The Blue Jays proved that they have money to spend just by being in the mix for players like Soto and Burnes.
By not landing either of those players, the Blue Jays likely have the ability to give Bregman the highest offer and get him to Toronto.
Bregman has played for the Houston Astros his entire career after coming into the league with them in 2016.
In 2024, Bregman played 145 games where he batted .260 with 26 home runs, 75 RBIs, and a .768 OPS.
The Blue Jays have also reportedly been in negotiations with free agent Pete Alonso, so it will be interesting if the team decides to pursue one or the other, or both.
