The Toronto Blue Jays had their first losing season in the last four seasons after finishing with a record of 74-88 and coming in last place in the American League East.
After winning back-to-back World Series titles in 1992 and 1993, the Blue Jays have only made the postseason five times, with three of them ending with being swept in the wild-card series.
The Blue Jays finished in fifth place in the AL East for the first time since 2013, and they will likely need to make some moves this offseason if they want to win a division title in 2025.
While the Blue Jays haven’t made many notable moves this offseason, they have been named as finalists for starting pitcher-free agent Roki Sasaki.
Former GM Jim Duquette revealed his thoughts on the Blue Jays being finalists for Sasaki.
“There’s no way I would have guessed Toronto,” Duquette said via Foul Territory on ‘X.’

While Duquette was surprised about the Blue Jays being named a finalist for Sasaki, he does mention that he could market himself to the entire country of Canada.
With the Blue Jays being the only Canadian team in the MLB, Sasaki could have the potential to make a ton of money via endorsements.
Duquette also says that Toronto is a good city and a nice place to play, but nonetheless, the fact that they are finalists shocked him.
The Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego Padres will likely be the landing spot for Sasaki, but the Blue Jays will give their best effort to bring him to Canada.
