VESTAL, N.Y. – Longtime Binghamton assistant baseball coach and local Hall of Fame legend Ed Folli is retiring from his coaching position with the Bearcats.
Folli joined head coach Tim Sinicki’s staff in 2007 and helped amass 11 combined America East regular season and tournament titles in 18 years – the most of any current America East member. With his vast experience, Folli was a key ingredient in player development and game strategy.
“It was an unbelievable 18-year run to have Fols on staff with this program,” Sinicki said. “I still remember the summer day when I approached him and asked if he was interested in joining the staff, and how happy I was to know what the program was going to gain when he accepted my offer.. The baseball and life lessons he’s instilled in every player who he’s crossed paths with are invaluable. I’ll be forever grateful for what Fols has done for me personally and professionally. Without a doubt I’m a better coach today than I was 18 years ago and much of that has to do with his influence and guidance.”
Folli brought three decades of baseball experience when he arrived to campus, having achieved regional and state acclaim as head coach for nearby Union-Endicott High School. He also has been recognized for coaching and mentoring former MLB all-star reliever Jim Johnson during Johnson’s scholastic career.
In 17 seasons as head coach of the Tigers, Folli captured eight sectional, three regional and two state championships while amassing a 275-93 overall record.
The two-time state coach of the year is the winningest baseball coach in school history. He also served as an assistant football coach for a U-E program that won two state titles.
He was inducted into the Section 4 Hall of Fame in March of 2014 and also entered the Greater Binghamton Sports Hall of Fame in 2023.
Folli’s son, Mike, will continue the family ties, entering his ninth season on the staff in 2024-25.
