The Toronto Blue Jays are in one of the best divisions in Major League Baseball: the American League East.
After making the postseason the last two years, the Blue Jays missed the playoffs in 2024 as they finished with a record of 74-88 and came in last place in the AL East.
In a division that includes the Boston Red Sox, New York Yankees, and Baltimore Orioles, the Blue Jays need to stay aggressive in the offseason if they want to remain competitive.
Although the Blue Jays haven’t made many notable moves thus far in the offseason, they are reportedly negotiating a contract extension with a key player.
According to Ben Nicholson-Smith via B/R Walk-Off on ‘X,’ the Blue Jays are actively negotiating a contract extension with Vladimir Guerrero Jr.

Guerrero Jr. came into the league in 2019 with the Blue Jays and has played all six seasons of his MLB career with the team.
Although Guerrero Jr. is set to become a free agent after this coming season, the Blue Jays are taking action now to try and ensure he stays with the team in the future.
In 2024, Guerrero Jr. played in 159 games where he batted .323 with 30 home runs, 103 RBIs, and a .940 OPS.
The four-time all-star has been a staple in the Blue Jays’ lineup for a few years now, and getting him to sign an extension would be a big win for the organization.
Although the Blue Jays haven’t won an AL East title since 2015, having Guerrero Jr. in the lineup gives them a higher chance of accomplishing that goal in 2025.
