The Toronto Blue Jays missed the postseason for the first time since 2021 after finishing with a record of 74-88 and coming in last place in the American League East.
After an underwhelming season, the Blue Jays haven’t been very aggressive this offseason thus far as their most notable acquisition is second baseman Andres Gimenez from the Cleveland Guardians.
The Blue Jays have reportedly been linked to free agent starting pitcher Roki Sasaki who is coming over to the MLB from Japan this offseason.
MLB Insider Ken Rosenthal revealed why he believes Sasaki to the Blue Jays would be an odd fit.
“There is no reason why he would pick the Blue Jays, they are not a great pitching development factory,” Rosenthal said via Foul Territory on ‘X.’

Rosenthal reported that Sasaki met with the Blue Jays last week, the San Diego Padres over the weekend, and is now meeting with the Dodgers on Tuesday.
While the Dodgers and Padres are likely the favorites to land Sasaki, the Blue Jays have been named as a finalist in the Sasaki sweepstakes.
Rosenthal also notes that the Blue Jays haven’t been great at developing pitchers in the past, which is why it would be strange for Sasaki to sign there.
Sasaki is only 23 years old and his 2024 stats from his overseas team include appearing in 18 games with a 10-5 record, a 2.35 ERA, and 129 strikeouts in 111.0 innings pitched.
The Blue Jays haven’t done much this offseason so far, and they will likely need to make some moves if they want to compete for an AL East title in 2025.
