Peru is getting a position as a key logistics hub in South America, emphasizing the strategic importance of the Port of Chancay and Jorge Chávez International Airport in fostering historic trade links with Asia, says Promperu.
The arrival of the container ship “Xin Shanghai” at the port of Shangai from the port of Chancay on December 18 represents a milestone in maritime trade between Peru and Asia.
Completing the journey in a record 23 days, this direct connection strengthens the bilateral relationship with one of the world’s most dynamic markets.
Through a strategic campaign in China, Peru Commission for the Promotion of Exports and Tourism (Promperu) showcases Peru’s competitive advantages to attract foreign direct investment (FDI) and boost exports.
According to “fDi Markets” by the “Financial Times”, China ranks as the third-largest investor in Peru, with investments exceeding US$ 13 billion since 2003, driving economic growth and creating jobs.
Innovation and diversification: Paving the way to the future
The Port of Chancay and the revamped Jorge Chávez International Airport take center stage as pillars of this new era, featured as symbols of global connectivity in Promperu’s promotional video.
The campaign also aims to diversify Chinese investment into sectors like agriculture, tourism, and manufacturing, moving beyond traditional industries such as mining and logistics.
One of the key initiatives is the upcoming “Investment Roadshow,” scheduled for February 2025 in Shanghai and Beijing.
The event will feature seminars, high-level business meetings, and engagements with government officials, all aimed at enhancing economic collaboration between the two nations.
