La Rochelle winger Jack Nowell pulled off a sensational Superman-style finish against Bristol Bears.
The moment took place in the Investec Champions Cup, with Ronan O’Gara’s Top 14 outfit hosting the Bears at Stade Marcel-Deflandre.
The French club swept Bears aside in a 35-7 scoreline, but it’s a try from British & Irish Lion Nowell that’s grabbed the attention on social media.

With the deadlock yet to be broken after 16 minutes, Kiwi fly-half Ihaia West pinged a cross-field kick into the path of Nowell. The ball bounced, and in one simultaneous move, Nowell dived, caught the ball and grounded it while airborne.
The score got a rousing reception at the home stadium, but needed checking by the TMO first as the referee thought the 31-year-old had dropped it. There was another huge applause when the try was confirmed, but Nowell looked a little worse for wear after his athletic feat.
“Sometimes rugby players do things that just defy logic, that take your breath clean away, Jack Nowell, La Rochelle Superman,” the Premier Sports commentator can be heard saying.
The response online was equally as positive. “Jack Nowell about to go VIRAL @PremSportsTV- let’s get clipping!!! Unreal,” said commentator Rob Vickerman.
Former international Andy Goode said: “Stop it @nowellsy15 that’s absolute filth!”
Tolu Latu got La Rochell’s second 10 minutes later, and Bears would reply with a try from Jack Bates just shy of half-time. However, the French big-hitters really tightened their grip in the second half, with Levani Botia, UJ Seuteni and Thomas Berjon crossing the whitewash. West converted all tries in a near-perfect win for for O’Gara’s men.
The result leaves La Rochelle top of pool two with nine points. Bears are rock bottom with no points after two games. The next round of European fixtures are in January.
