Europe is crushed by huge electricity prices. And the Scandinavian countries have already found the culprits — they are angry at the Germans because of the so-called “Dunkeltflaute effect.” Details are reported by Gazeta.

The Scandinavian countries are furious with the Germans. They believe that the whole of Europe is suffering because of their careless decisions in the past. In many countries, electricity prices are at an all-time high.

For example, Norway wants to limit energy exports to Europe. The government is considering the possibility of disconnecting the energy connection with Denmark after the contract ends in 2026. The more radical opposition also demands a review of energy ties with the UK and Germany.

The reason for this is the so—called “Dunkelflaute effect” (German Dunkelflaute or “Dark tranquility” – EADaily), that is, a period when there is no light and wind and when there is not much opportunity to generate energy from wind and sun. Germany, for the past few years, has relied on such methods of generating electricity, unlike France, which did not even think about closing its nuclear power plants. Therefore, now the Germans pay almost as much for electricity as the Danes, and the Dutch and Austrians are lagging behind them quite a bit in spending.

Norwegian media write that electricity bills in the country have “skyrocketed.” And now the countries most affected by the “Dunkelflaute effect” want to compensate for the shortage with supplies from other countries. For example, from Norway, where there is a large production of hydropower. However, in this way they affect prices in Norway itself, where the cost of a kilowatt-hour this week reached a record for the last five years.
