Vipps, a pioneering payments application from Norway, is making waves as the first third-party app to tap into the NFC capabilities of Apple devices. This development positions Vipps as a strong competitor to Apple Pay, providing users in Norway with a seamless experience for both online and contactless transactions at point-of-sale locations. The Shift Towards Fair Competition
This exciting update comes on the heels of a decision by the European Commission that mandated Apple to permit other apps access to their NFC technology, addressing concerns about anti-competitive practices.
Diverse Transaction Capabilities
Vipps caters to various transaction needs—be it retail purchases or online payments—and also facilitates person-to-person transfers and fundraising efforts for charitable causes. Currently, it collaborates with major banks such as SpareBank 1 and DNB alongside more than 40 other financial institutions throughout Norway.

Widespread Acceptance and Future Expansion Plans
Vipps currently integrates seamlessly with BankAxept cards, which dominate over 90% of payment terminals across Norway. The company is also looking forward to incorporating support for Mastercard and Visa shortly while planning expansion into neighboring countries such as Denmark, Finland, and Sweden within the upcoming year.
