The Polestar 3 is the automaker’s first model to roll off the assembly line in North America at its new South Carolina facility

Just in time for the holidays, Polestar’s first Made in North America vehicle is delivering to customers in Canada.

The first Polestar 3s from Polestar’s South Carolina plant are landing in driveways across Canada, confirms the automaker.

I’m extremely proud and excited for the delivery of U.S.-built Polestar 3s making their way to customers,” said Anders Gustafsson, head of Polestar North America, in a press release.

“Polestar 3 plays a pivotal role in our brand’s expanding lineup as an SUV designed for the North American market, proudly assembled in South Carolina, and now being handed over to North American customers.”

The initial Polestar 3 deliveries in Canada were to customers in Vancouver, Toronto and Montreal. The starting MSRP is $85,200 for the vehicle’s long range dual motor model.

It is not eligible for any federal or provincial rebates.

“An SUV for the electric age”

The Polestar 3 is the automaker’s first electric SUV. It comes in two trim types: the long range dual motor and the long range dual motor with performance pack.

The long range has a range up to 506 kilometres on a single charge. Meanwhile the long rage with performance pack offers 449 km of range on a single charge.

Both vehicles have a charging capability up to 380 kW. They can charge from 10 to 80 per cent in 30 minutes on a 250 kW DC fast charger.

In addition, Polestar 3 offers route planning maps with integrated charging stops as well as Plug and Charge — though the latter feature is not available in North America “yet,” says a Polestar spokesperson.

In a preview of what may be to come, however, Polestar says in a press release, “when Plug & Charge is activated, the car communicates directly with the charger itself and payment is processed directly – removing multiple steps from the traditional process.”

Looking ahead to 2025 Polestar is anticipating milestones including production on the Polestar 4, which it intends to bring to Canada according to a 2023 annual report.

As well as manufacturing in South Carolina, Polestar is also moving manufacturing operations to South Korea. This move helps Polestar avoid the 100 per cent American and Canadian tariffs on Chinese-made EVs.

According to the same annual report, Polestar is also contemplating opening production facilities in Europe.
