The ending of the Major League Baseball season saw the New York Yankees fall to the Los Angeles Dodgers in the World Series.
After losing a chance at another title, the Yankees have another battle on their hands as they try to resign their star outfielder Juan Soto.
Along with the Yankees, Soto is also drawing interest from the New York Mets.
MLB Analyst Deesha Thosar was asked who is feeling the most pressure to sign Soto.
“I think Hal is feeling the pressure, and I think the Yankees need it more,” Thosar said.
Thosar explains that Cohen, the owner of the Mets, has flexed his ability to sign big players multiple times with the signings of Justin Verlander, Max Scherzer, and Francisco Lindor.
She also mentions that Steinbrenner, the owner of the Yankees, hasn’t been this publicly vocal about a free agent signing since Aaron Judge was a free agent.
Soto is also drawing interest from teams outside of New York including the Los Angeles Dodgers, Boston Red Sox, and Toronto Blue Jays, so the competition is heating up.
The Yankees went to the World Series in Soto’s first year with the team, which could play in their favor when he makes his final decision.
If Soto is just looking for the highest number, then it would appear Cohen has the advantage.
It will be interesting to see how the Soto sweepstakes plays out in the end.
