Nadia George, an Indigenous-Canadian actor and advocate, will be guest hosting the event.
The evening is in collaboration with Christmas at the Castle at Casa Loma.
George said the decision to make the event a soirée is to allow people to connect with one another.
“I really wanted the focus to be about what this organization is doing,” she said, “and I want people to feel like they’re truly a part of it.”
George explained how the COVID-19 pandemic affected a lot of charities. “even more so when you’re not working within your own borders,” like FOTOCAN, she said..
“Because it doesn’t have that kind of government funding, (it’s) really a skeleton crew.”
The organization relies on sponsors and donations, which were more challenging to get during the pandemic, as they were unable to put on events to raise money.
Margaret Blair has been with FOTOCAN since 2002 and became the executive director in 2013.
She said the event will be an opportunity for people to get involved and they want to “provide information regarding the impact that we are having on the lives of these children.”

George said the hope for the event is to raise funds to be given back to the charity to help build “brighter futures” for children and families in the Caribbean and Latin America.
All of the proceeds from the event will be given to FOTOCAN.
George also hopes the event will raise awareness on the work FOTOCAN does.
She wants people to recognize the various privileges they have. “We also need to understand that there are great differences in regards to the access of resources,” around the world, she said
The event will include live performances, special guests and a silent auction for guests to bid on.
The soirée takes place on Dec. 1, 2024 from 6 p.m. to 12 a.m. General admission and VIP tickets can be purchased online.
