GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a swatting incident that forced Oxford High School, the site of a deadly school shooting in 2021, into a lockdown this week.

The OCSO announced Thursday afternoon that the school was placed into lockdown out of an abundance of caution after it received a call claiming someone was inside a school bathroom with an automatic rifle and an explosive device.
Police conducted a sweep and found no evidence of a threat. Further investigation determined that the swatting call came from the Netherlands.
Sheriff Michael Bouchard said that while they believed the threat to be a hoax from the beginning, especially considering the school’s history, his department will always ensure that claims are followed up earnestly.

“Every threat will be fully investigated, and we will always seek to hold the responsible accountable,” Bouchard said in a statement. “We have even worked with partners in Europe to prosecute people in the past.”
Four students at Oxford High School were killed on Nov. 30, 2021, when 15-year-old Ethan Crumbley opened fire inside the building. Crumbley pleaded guilty to several charges and was sentenced to life in prison. His parents, James and Jennifer Crumbley, were also tried and convicted on involuntary manslaughter charges, the first parents in the U.S. to be held responsible for a child carrying out a school shooting.
