On the occasion of the 20th anniversary of Slovakia’s entry into NATO, the Supreme Allied Commander Europe (SACEUR) Christopher Cavoli visited Slovakia. During his meetings, the General praised Slovakia’s contributions to NATO, its military modernization efforts, and its investments in the capabilities required to deter aggression and defend NATO territory. He ended his visit at the Lešť military training area, where he met with Allied Soldiers hosted by Slovakia to safeguard our freedoms and provide collective defense. General Cavoli stated, “Twenty years ago, Slovakia, a sovereign nation, took the decision to join a collection of other sovereign nations that pledged not only to defend themselves but to defend each other. And these nations do that because we share so much in common – specifically our values.”
General Cavoli and U.S. Ambassador Gautam Rana met with Prime Minister Robert Fico, Minister of Defense Robert Kaliňák, and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Juraj Blanár. Later, he received the Memorial Cross of the Chief of the General Staff of the Slovak Armed Forces from Slovak Chief of Defense General Daniel Zmeko. General Cavoli also participated in a reception organized by the British Embassy on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of Slovakia in NATO (March 29).
On Wednesday, General Cavoli visited Soldiers from Slovakia, Czechia, Spain, Germany, Slovenia, and the United States in the Lešť training area. These Soldiers represent six of the 32 nations that stand shoulder to shoulder in NATO – the world’s most powerful military alliance – committed to defend not just our territories, but our common values and way of life.
