HGTV, Retta look for the scariest house in America, stop in RI
HGTV star Retta is searching for the scariest house in America in a new series that premieres Friday night. One of the entries is in North Kingstown.
NORTH KINGSTOWN – A North Kingstown house will be competing for the title of “Scariest House in America” in a new reality TV show that begins airing Friday at 9 p.m.
“Scariest House in America” is a spin-off of HGTV’s “Ugliest House in America,” both hosted by actor and comedian Retta, and the winner will come away with a $150,000 home makeover by designer Alison Victoria.
Nine houses will compete in three regional contests, with the three regional winners returning for the season finale on Oct. 25.
The North Kingstown house, described by producers as being “full of death traps,” is featured in the opening episode, going up against a Townsend, Massachusetts, house with a giant well in the kitchen and a Bedford, Pennsylvania, house that’s a former jail “with a scary bat problem.” This region has been dubbed the Nightmarish Northeast.
The Mysterious Midwest is up on Oct. 11, featuring a haunted house with deathly decor in Brumley, Missouri; a home full of ghosts with a terrifying basement in Atchison, Kansas; and a church surrounded by graves in Dayton, Ohio.
Finally, the Spooky South airs Oct. 18, with a former mob hideout in Gulf Shores, Alabama; a historic house full of witches and ghosts in New Orleans; and a haunted dollhouse with creepy critters in Plaquemine, Louisiana.
The Oct. 25 finale will unveil the winner.
